How To Replace An Eide Hard Drive.
Translate: Polish German Russian
First regardless of either upgrading or replacing the EIDE hard drive we must make sure that the computer is powered down. You then must make sure that the work area is absent of any and all static electricity or sources of it. It's not wise to working on a carpet as this is a source of static and static electricity is a killer of computer components. Next we remove the computer case by either depressing tabs and sliding the case off or you will need to undo the screws and remove them and then slide the case off. After that we will want to identify where the EIDE hard drive is located. This can usually be done by looking for where the ribbon cable is. There are probably two ribbon cables in the computer and one is a smaller one for a floppy disk drive if your computer has one. We are looking for a 40 pin or 80 pin ribbon cable. This ribbon cable should be running from the main circuit board in the computer called a motherboard and running into the rear end of the EIDE hard disk drive. You want to remove this ribbon cable from the rear of the hard drive but leave it attached to the motherboard. Now you may remove the hard drive after removing the ribbon cable by depressing any tabs holding the hard drive into place or using the screw driver again to undo the screws holding in the EIDE hard drive. Installation of the replacement hard drive can be done in the exact reverse order of the original removal. If you encounter any problems you will want to check and make sure that the ribbon cable is secure into the rear of the hard drive and if it comes down to it make sure there are no bent pins on the 40 pin or 80 pin ribbon cable.
